About this event
Learn how fishermen, divers, boatmen and other ocean-goers helped shape scientific knowledge of the Atlantic Ocean during a presentation by historian Christopher Pastore. His talk, “A Thousand, Thousand Slimy Things: A Natural History of the Sea from the Bottom Up,” examines how everyday people contributed to our understanding of marine life and ocean circulation from the 17th through the 19th centuries. Pastore highlights the observations that helped scientists classify marine creatures, study algae and better understand the natural world beneath the waves.
Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
