About this event
Take in the Gainesville Orchestra’s Revolution, a classical concert pairing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony with Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara’s “Cantus Arcticus.” Beethoven’s celebrated symphony opens with one of classical music’s most recognizable four-note motifs and builds toward a triumphant finale, reflecting themes of struggle and determination. Rautavaara’s “Cantus Arcticus,” a concerto for birds and orchestra, incorporates recorded birdsong into an atmospheric musical portrait of Finland’s northern landscapes.
Together, the works offer contrasting perspectives on the expressive power of orchestral music. Sponsored in part by Visit Gainesville, Alachua County.
