About this event
Slap Dragon makes music that rewards close listening. Blending offbeat songwriting, infectious melodies, and an experimental edge, the band brings a playful unpredictability to their sound. Their songs balance catchy hooks with unexpected turns, making each performance feel a little different from the last.
In the intimacy of a listening room, those details come into focus, giving audiences the chance to experience Slap Dragon up close, without distraction, and with room to appreciate all the little things that make their music unique. Thomas Allain is a Gainesville songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose sentimental indie folk rock blends confessional songwriting with the warmth of classic soul and rock. His debut album, Words I’ve Learned to Say, turns memory, doubt, and longing into melodic songs that move naturally between quiet reflection and full-band release.

In a listening room, the details come forward: honest lyrics, expressive arrangements, and a voice searching for connection in a distracted world. Thomas Allain is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Gainesville, FL, making music he calls “sentimental indie folk-rock.” His songs lean into the quiet stuff—memory, doubt, hope—and come out the other side with something honest, melodic, human, and rockin.
In January 2025, he began recording his debut solo album at Ivy Manor in Muscle Shoals, AL, working with producer Dan Hannon (Manchester Orchestra, Julien Baker, Paris Jackson). The first single, “Footprints in the Stone,” drops June 14 and offers a glimpse into a project built on years of collaborative writing and growing into his sound. Thomas also plays bass for touring artist Cat Ridgeway, where he’s cut his teeth on the road, learning how to hold down a groove and light up a room.
Before that, he fronted his band The Late Night Losers, performing at the 2024 30A Songwriters Festival and sharing stages that shaped his voice as a performer and collaborator. Now stepping into his own, Thomas brings all that lived-in experience to every show, whether it’s solo or in a band, chasing connection through song.
